Sprinkler tank replacement is the answer when a tank cannot be repaired back to what the system needs. We take out the old tank and install a new sectional tank, sized to the building as it is now rather than as it was, with the pump house alongside it where that is due as well. Sentry Sprinkler Protection does this work across England from its base in Kettering, ISO 9001 certified.

Repair, or a replacement sprinkler tank?

We would rather repair a tank than replace it, and we say which is the better money before anyone commits. Replacement is the right call when:

  • The steel itself has corroded, not just the coating.
  • Sectional seams leak faster than they can be remade.
  • Racking, stock or an extension have raised the hazard, and the tank is too small for what the system must now deliver.

The third is the commonest. It is a design question under BS EN 12845 rather than a maintenance one, so the new tank is sized from the current hazard, not copied from the old one.

The tank and the pumps are one water supply

A tank and its pump set are a single water supply. Replace one and leave the other at the end of its life, and the same job usually comes round again, with a second isolation.

Where both are due, we quote them together and do them in one programme.

Keeping the building protected during the work

A replacement means the old supply comes out before the new one is proved. We plan the order of work so that period is as short as it can be, agree it with you in writing, and tell you what your insurer needs to know.

Where the site has two tanks, one stays in service while the other is replaced.

What you get at handover

  • The tank filled, with the level and automatic refill proved.
  • The low level alarm tested through to its destination.
  • Suction, anti-vortex plate and screens checked.
  • A record of what was installed, for your insurer and your logbook.

Questions about sprinkler tank replacement

How long does a sprinkler tank replacement take?

It depends on the size of the tank, the access, and whether the pump house is being replaced at the same time. The programme goes in the quotation, and we need notice before starting so materials and access can be arranged.

Does a new sprinkler tank need a design check first?

Usually, yes. If the use of the building or the storage has changed since the system was designed, the tank should be sized from the current hazard classification. We check that at the survey, before a size goes on the quotation.

Is the survey free?

Yes. We look at the tank, the pumps and the building, then put a fixed price in writing. There is no survey fee and no obligation.
