Wet riser servicing, testing and pump maintenance
A building over 50 metres, or a wet riser nobody has proved in a while.
BS 9990
A wet riser stays permanently charged, so it brings a pump, a break tank and a set of alarms along with the pipework. All of it has to be proved together, because a riser that holds pressure is worth nothing if the pump feeding it will not start.

Questions we get asked
How is a wet riser different from a dry riser?
A dry riser is empty until the brigade connects to it. A wet riser is always full and pressurised, fed by its own pump and tank. Buildings above roughly 50 metres need a wet riser, because a brigade pump cannot reach that height.
What does the service include?
Six-monthly and annual testing to BS 9990, the pump run and proved under flow, duty and standby changeover, break tank level and low-water alarm checks, and every landing valve tested.
Can you work out of hours?
Usually we have to. Testing a wet riser means running water through an occupied building, so most of this work happens in the evening or at a weekend.

The approval UK insurers look for on sprinkler work. A system installed by an LPCB approved contractor counts as genuine risk mitigation on your policy; one installed by anybody else may not.
